President Trump was criticized recently for comments he made about not wanting to completely end H-1B Visas. What is overlooked in the hubbub about President Trump’s comments is the fact President Trump and his Administration are vigorously working to protect American workers by ending H-1B Visa abuse. Here is the story.
First, What is an H-1B Visa?
The H-1B Nonimmigrant Visa is a visa that allows a person to work legally and temporarily in the United States. The H-1B Visa was created by the Immigration Act of 1990 and allows a person to work legally in the US for up to six years. The program was intended to bring in temporary workers to fill “specialty occupations” which American employers were unable to fill with American workers. The H-1B Visa program has been used, however, to replace American workers with cheaper foreign labor. (Read the linked article and you will see how confusing the immigration law is and that when Congress created this visa, the law Congress passed actually allowed for Americans to be replaced with foreign labor in a number of ways using the H-1B Visa.)
