The Optional Practical Training program provides employment authorizations for foreign F-1 Student Visa holders. I previously wrote about the F-1 Student Visa (and the F-2 Visa which is available to spouses and children of foreign F-1 Visa holders) in an earlier article about our crazy Visa system. I will outline some of the problems with the OPT program in this article. In short, the OPT program allows American companies to displace or replace American workers with cheaper foreign labor. Importantly, the Trump Administration recently affirmed its commitment to reforming the OPT program to protect American workers.
